This guy got away with it and functioned about as well as could be expected. Is there room for forgiveness when it comes to murder? Parents need to be supportive more than domineering. There's alway room for forgiveness for sins...but there's still a penalty to be paid in order to have a functional society.

Your post intrigued me, if he had confessed to a Catholic priest, he would have most likely been directed to turn himself in as part of being forgiven. What is the mechanism with other Christian denominations on the confession of sins?

Re: 26 - Agreed.
He is to be commended for working to make his life better and to raise his family in Australia.
He never took the hard step of turning himself in in the US, so that the people he harmed and abandoned in the US could have a measure of closure. That may be a hard thing to do, but it would have been the right thing to do.
Given that, his contrition and his wanting to do the right thing for the people he abandoned is suspect.
