I’m not sure about your #3. Are you suggesting going outside armed to meet the threat? I can’t imagine doing that or not trying to prevent my armed husband from doing that. I can imagine calling LE and going to the basement with my armed husband to await events though. I’d shoot the miscreant in his leg/s the moment the took the first step. I might shoot hubs in the leg if he refused to wait for LE.

You need to stop believing Hollywood on Guns.
You’ve never shot a gun and expect to shoot someone in the leg in an adrenaline filled situation. You’re absolutely crazy if you think it’s that easy.
I’m quite experienced and I do not believe I can accurately aim for a leg in that scenario, nor would I. Empty mag Center of Mass, if the dirtbag is still moving, toss another mag in and repeat. Especially if the thug has a firearm.
Your husband has failed in his duties if he has never at least taken you to the range once, even on a .22. My wife hates anything bigger then .22, but damn well knows how to use the home defense firearms. Every training class I have enrolled in, I have brought her as well.
And then you would have wasted a bullet and wasted your life. While the bad guy is cussing you out for the owie in his leg, he's also raised his weapon and given you your worst hair day ever.
Learn to shoot. Learn to shoot *to kill*. That last one, the killing part, actually takes more brain power than shooting skills. You have to decide that you can, in fact, end someone else's life. If you can't do that, don't even pick up the gun.
I suggest some thinking and a lot of training for you. I'm a girl, my boss gave me 3 months to mull over the "killing someone" part. Just winging the bad guy only makes it worse for you.
Ask your hubby about center mass.
If I was your husband I would grab a handful of boxcar.

Everybody has a different home layout, but you certainly don't engage an armed enemy by making yourself a target.
