Trump increased his vote total by over 20%! The population increased by about 1.5%.

Saying that Trump's numbers increased because of population growth, is not correct. It's not even close.

And Biden improved on Hillary’s 65m tally by 25%, for the same reason as Trump - early voting, vote-by-mail *and* population increase. In 2020, Trump ran into the same problem as in 2016 - his popular vote share remained lower than Romney’s because he is deeply unpopular. For every additional vote he got, he motivated at least one person to vote against him. Without the Green Party’s Jill Stein on the ballot in 2020 to divert Democrat votes, he simply could not beat Biden in the key swing states.
