I don’t think people should be shamed... but let’s not leave health out of the equation here. Physical health of course, but also mental. Dieting can be just as obsessive as eating - they can both be disorders. Both can lead to poor outcomes. Losing excess weight for health is a good thing. It’s just that the health incentive to do so is often years or decades down the road so there is seldom any urgency to lose weight other than the social stigma, until the doctor tells you you have diabetes, heart disease, need medications or stent or bypass surgery etc.

The inverse is also true for those with being skinny obsessions.

That is exactly what should happen.

When we stopped shaming bad behavior - bad behavior became normal.
