The Big Apple’s budget will swell to a record-breaking $106.7 billion in 2024 because of the surging migrant crisis, inflation, and a string of new labor deals, Mayor Eric Adams is slated to announce later Wednesday, The Post has learned.

The budget deal, which will be formally announced at 2 p.m., is a $4 billion increase over what the mayor had pitched in his fiscal proposal back in January.

Hizzoner said the increase in spending will be offset by $1 billion in new state grants that will go toward covering the $1.4 billion the city has already forked over for shelter and social services for migrants within the last year.

But what Gov. Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers are expected to give with one hand, they’ve partially taken away with the other — forcing Adams to find $150 million annually to help fund the cash-strapped Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Billion here, billion there, it begins to add up.
All they have to do is raise taxes on the rich that still live there.

This is what has always amazed me about NY and NYC and their budgets.

Florida now has 2-3 million more people than NY, yet their budget is approximately half of NY state.

NYC has around 8-9 million people living there, Florida has around 23 million people living there, yet their budgets are roughly the same.

$230 Billion for the State Budget and $100+ Billion for the city. That is patently obscene.

That’s about $13-14k per resident, many of whom pay little taxes, directly, though all pay indirectly due to high tax impact on the cost of goods and services.

When I was growing up NYC sales tax was 4%. Today I think it’s something like 9%. Plus we didn’t have a city income tax. It was a better city when taxes were lower.

New Yorkers are imbeciles. What exactly do they get for their high taxes and outrageous government spending? The most basic government services are not being delivered and they pay a premium for it.

How does $4B get “offset” by $1B? No wonder NYC is broke...they can’t add or subtract.

Maybe everyone in NYC can become a city employee. Then if the city tax is 100% then there is no budget shortfall. A perpetual funding machine.
