New York literally had to change the law so that this trial came to pass. That was exactly my first thought regarding this "trial." The Constitution forbids a Bill of Attainder, but that is exactly what New York has done.

Isn’t this trial based on illegal ex post facto banned by our US Constitution? passing a law after the fact and prosecuting it is what we’re talking about.
