Facebook users who had an account at any time from May 2007 to the end of last year can now apply for their share of a $725 million privacy settlement that the platform’s parent company, Meta, agreed to last December.

CHRISTOFOROUS: Well, I think we all hear $725 million and our ears perk up because that sounds like a lot of money. But the fact is, when you divvy it up amongst millions and millions of people, it’s not that much money anymore
What more proof do you need than "Facebook improperly sharing the personal information of 87 million users with third-party advertisers"?!!
If you are lucky you will get $5 from Meta - settlement only works out to about $9/person and lawyers and fees will likely take close to half of that - not even worth your time imo.
If the MSM buries the story, that will limit the number of claims, increasing the individual payout.
However, the bigger thing here is not how much you or I can make off this, it's dinging Fakebook to the MAX.
by giving them more private information...
I’ll pass on the check for 11 cents.
“by giving them more private information...”
Exactly. Meta is all about selling your private information.
I got in on the Equifax data breach settlement. Don’t even recall signing up. Years later I got a check in the mail. Yep, $9.
I had a notification on fakebook that it was available.
Like all class action cases after attorney fees here’s your quarter.
Been in one of them with State Farm Ins. receives 11 cents.
I signed up for that settlement. Took the option for five years of free monthly credit reports and credit monitoring. That has turned out to be somewhat useful. More so than a $9 payment.
I was included in a class action with major credit card companies over excessive surcharges on currency exchange rates during international travel. They offered a blanket $25 dollar payment in settlement.
I waited. I had been working projects in Europe and Asia during the relevant time period and all my travel expenses were run through the affected credit cards. It was quite a bit more than my annual net income.
Many years later I got a check for several thousand dollars from them.
Don’t forget that everyone who applies for the “award” will have their data harvested (and sold) by the distributors.
Your one of the few lucky ones
My case with Farmers Ins. (not State Farm Ins. oops)didn’t many I spoke with received the same raw deal the lawyers are in fat city now.
The Firm wins often
Can I get some money for my alias FB page, as well as my real one?
