Poll: Solid Majority–54 to 25% of GOP Primary Voters Think Trump More Electable than DeSantis

The latest Morning Consult poll shows that former President Donald Trump is more electable against President Joe Biden than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) by a large margin.

Among 794 potential Republican primary voters who said they plan to participate in the 2024 Republican presidential primary (or caucus) in their state, Trump was judged more electable against Biden by 29 points.

A majority (54 percent) of the respondents said that Trump has a better chance of defeating Biden in the 2024 presidential election if they face each other in November 2024. Comparatively, only 25 percent said DeSantis was more electable against the president.

There was also another 12 percent who favored another percon, and eight percent said they did not know or had no opinion. The respondents were given a list of 11 declared or potential GOP candidates and asked who had the best chance of winning against Biden in the next election.

Unlike Trump, who has already announced he was running for office, DeSantis has yet to make an official announcement on if he is going to run, though many expect him to. Part of the potential reason to wait is Florida’s resign-to-run rule that would require DeSantis to step down in order to run for president. But reports have indicated that the Republican leadership in the state Senate is looking to revise the bill.

The Morning Consult poll was conducted from April 20 to 23, with 794 potential Republican primary voters as respondents. There is a four percent margin of error.

On the other hand, Biden announced his reelection plans Tuesday via video format on social media.

Trump in 2024 and DeSantis in 2028. That’s my reasoning.

Against Biden machine? Maybe. DeSantis has not shown that he would be any more capable of combating political machinations than Trump.

Who cares about electability. Trump is what the country needs. Put before the country what is needed. If they reject it, so be it. Just getting someone elected for the heck of it is a horrible strategy for the country.

Trump’s most vehement supporters don’t realize that there are voters, predonantly women, who tend to favor him on the issues but detest his name-calling and personal attacks. Trump needs their votes and can get them by cleaning-up his mouth.

DeSantis is already DeSatan in the eyes of the media.

He’s going against the golden ESG calf and he has not yet been punished for his blasphemy.

They’ll do to DeSantis exactly what they would do to Trump.

We get it. They also need to understand that Trump is 76 and his character isn’t likely to be dramatically changed. Explain to your daughters why you had to vote for a potty mouth so you don’t have to console her after she is raped on the street a mile away from your house.

You should care about electability since a candidates positions only matter if he’s elected.

There have been quite a few comments from Freepers here in recent months, indicating that they preferred DeSantis to Trump, because they perceive DeSantis as being better able to defeat Biden , or any other Democrat , in the general election.

And those commenters said they like both Trump and DeSantis, but they think DeSantis has a better chance in the general election.

Everyone has to decide who to vote for based on their own criteria. Is it better to vote for a candidate in a primary who isn’t your first choice because you think that candidate will win the general election?

You are correct. If they thought about it, the suburban soccer moms would understand that the whole MAGA thing is just what their neighborhood - and their country - need.

But too many of those weak folks are drifting away from Trump because of Trump’s off-the-cuff remarks. In that way, Trump is much like Patton. Sometimes too blunt for his own good.

Patton had Eisenhower to run interference him. Trump has no such person.

DeSantis is not conservative.

Conservatism is defined very strictly and comprehensively.

It is:

Drain the Swamp
Build the Wall
America First in All Things
Pro 2nd Amendment
Pro Life

He has been in political office over 6 years. That makes him part of the Swamp and thus he cannot be expected to talk about draining it or make any effort to do so.

The 2028 candidate we should prefer is someone who is not part of the Swamp. We thus would only have heard of them in the context of business, perhaps. Or something else. But under no circumstances can they have been in political office for enough years to have name recognition in that context.

FR should be publishing no articles, btw, that emerge from any media outlet within 50 miles of DC, NYC or LA. People who live in such places are Swamp dwellers.

Ron DeSantis WHO?

No national recognition. Bought and paid for. Same old same old.

Trump is the ONLY one who even has a chance to save this country.

Frankly, I think its already too late.

By your own less than comprehensive list, Trump is not a conservative, either.
Sad!
