As Tennessee’s legislature wrapped up year one of the 113th General Assembly on Friday, they did so without taking up gun legislation called to be enacted by state Democrats and Republican Gov. Bill Lee.
There wasn’t a lack of time, as many more days were allotted to finish the state’s business. The House clerk told the legislature last week that between the two years, the legislature had 90 days to be in session—with the state House using 27 and the Senate using 32 this year.
Less than two hours after both chambers gaveled out of session until January 2024, Lee used his authority to call the legislature into a special session to specifically discuss gun laws.
Special sessions are interim days between the two years that are called for a specific number of days by Lee or two-thirds of members elected to each body. Special sessions are specifically restricted to matters specifically mentioned in the call.
On Friday evening, Lee issued a brief statement announcing he will call for the legislature to convene a special session to “pass legislation that will strengthen public safety and preserve constitutional rights.”
Lee has not yet announced the days set for the special session, but Democrat lawmakers calling for the session last week called for it to be held “almost immediately.” Lee noted his “official call” and resolution will be released in the coming days.

IF they had a spine, which I doubt lately, they would do away with some restrictions instead. Most restrictions they could pass to appease Lee and his Dimobuds break the state’s constitutional guarantee:
Article I, Section 26, of the Tennessee State Constitution reads:
That the citizens of this state have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defense; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime.
Pass a law that says all students must attend gun training & safety classes.
Pass a law saying being trans is a mental disorder and therefore not allowed to own a gun.
Same governor that signed an executive order to create internment camps for unvaccinated Covid citizens of his state.
And now less than $425 to reach 27% in our freepathon!

Let’s get ‘er done!
TN had several amendments on the ballot last time around. The results were straight blue.
States are true democracies… so it’s really a mobocracy. That’s why we are losing TX n TN… not sure if anyone is left.
Bill Lee was part of Covid. Tyranny… v with an R like him, who needs the dems.
Nashville has been having an influx of show business folks for quite some time.
That, plus the state colleges (UT, Vandy, and Memphis), have led to a constituency with a bluer tinge.
Well, Poser Lee, put your butt in that chamber. Give your big speech and do your job. Count the votes and live with it instead of having a baby-like tantrum.
People like Republican Governor Bill Lee economically develop Tennessee bringing in liberals to be managers and illegals to do the grunt work.
I’ve lived in TN for 2/3 of my life. TN is deep red, but the governor and legislature are RINOs. Nashville has gone the way of Memphis and is controlled by Dems. Thank God I live in the country.
“I’ve lived in TN for 2/3 of my life. TN is deep red, but the governor and legislature are RINOs. Nashville has gone the way of Memphis and is controlled by Dems. Thank God I live in the country.”
You have my condolences. I’m in rural Georgia and we have Kemp and Atlanta, along with the Atlanta mayor (always a democrat). I wish we could sell Atlanta to Alabama, but they refuse to take the city. They say they have Birmingham and a couple other democrat-controlled cities so that makes us equal.
Years ago, the Tenn legislature sued the Obama admin over forced payments imposed on the taxpayers for all the refugees that were being re-settled in the state.
The legislature had to hire outside, private counsel.
Case would its way through the courts only to be dismissed by some lousy judge due to …… standing.
Judge said that since the legislature had to hire outside counsel, because neither the Governor nor AG supported the suit and weren’t involved, they had no standing. So the government body, most closely associated with the people, had no standing because two political hacks didn’t care.
So, if the same types of Republicans are still in the Tenn legislature the special session is all for naught.
Is he caving? Or is he letting the lunatics expose themselves?
Straight Blue.
Tenn did this to itself. All these governors and chambers of commerce types running around luring liberal companies to their cities. Scream from the rooftops about all the jobs. They never tell you that the jobs are already filled by the liberals that will move with the company.
Wisconsin with a majority Republican legislature, Madison and Milwaukee make the rules.
Tenn with a Republican majority, soon Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga will make all the rules.
Georgia with a Republican majority, soon about 10 counties out of 159 will make all the rules.
South Carolina with a Republican majority, will soon be ruled by Greenville, Columbia and all the Northern democrats moving to the coast.
Everything they touch turns to sh*t
Ding ding ding. You win! These are mental defects. The sooner we reestablish psychiatric hospitals the better. Until then our streets are more unsafe.
Because AI computers and robots get about 10% cheaper every year, that is coming. Psychiatric hospitals are skilled labor-intensive. Without sufficient funding, they turn into horror shows, so most were shut down. Artificial intelligence will help make artificial America great again.
