It is indeed irrational, indicating ego over ethos. I think DeSantis should wait this one out, but Trump's attacks only impugn his character, and are an asset to the Democrats, yet his policies overall and commitment to them support him.
Polls are all over the place but I believe the real polls show DeSantis as way more electable and within striking distance. No one else will threaten in the primary.
There is probably polling that shows the current trump lead, but hypotheticals if DeSantis enters, a tighter race and reasoning being the effectiveness running Florida.
