The crystalline structure of ice takes up more space than liquid water. Liquid water starts to expand when it warms past 40F.
I was curious and dug deeper to learn about the temperature range in which water does expand.(aside from the freeze expansion)
I’ll stand corrected. Expansions were minimal, as I recall, but I’m sure that we’re all still gonna’ drown.
