It would be hard to hide a lot of dead Germans, British or Americans. Sure the media can hide and lie about it forever, but what about friends and family?
At some point, families who get told your CIA/Military husband died in a car accident in Krakow or pottery kiln explosion at Emily Dickinson College are going to start asking questions.
Probably after a few dozen it becomes difficult to hide.
It has been my experience that most people don't ask such questions. Most people defer to authority.
