As home schoolers, we’d frequently get push back, “What about socialization?”
I’d say, “We socialize the boys at home. One a week I push them up against the wall and take their lunch money.”
No. 8. Kids who are homeschooled typically live with their mother and father.
These “concerns” about socialization are the result of propaganda to a receptive audience ie. working women. They love thinking that dumping their kids in daycare and public schools is good for them.
The homeschoolers I’ve interacted with are better socialized than the institutionalized kids. Their manners are better and they are more curious than the other kids. (I teach a CCD scripture class to 12 year olds).
George Washington was home schooled and a participant in a hazardous expedition at age 16. He didn’t need to be “socialized” by highschool thugs, half-dressed girls, and LGBTs.
We are homeschooling one granddaughter now. My son and daughter in law take them out of public school after grade six. I start teaching a second one next year. I’m the history and music teacher. I would highly recommend this to all grandparents. I purchased two copyright 1976 freshman college world history survey books from Thriftbooks ($5.49 each). I would put my 13 year old granddaughter’s understanding of world history up against any high school senior’s in the country. I spend 12 hours a week with her and the bonding is tremendous. Save your grandchildren!
The main benefit as I see it is not getting the s*** beaten out of them every day and robbed by ferals as the staff look the other way.
Home schooling is as bad as these giant schools. It was never an issue until they started consolidating schools putting too much power into the hands of a few.
Homeschooling has come a long way from the odd way the had it in the 80’s and 90’s. Now they have sports and activities with other children. They got rid of a lot of the weirdness.
My supremely educated mom homeschooled me and always gave me the impression she was sharing something wonderful with me, even if it was basic arithmetic or Dr. Suess.
As for socialization, it did get more challenging, since my peers were usually public school victims. But she taught me to look for the good in everyone, and if they were ignorant, just look for something else.
My fellow homeschoolers received excellent education and that’s an advantage, a great advantage yet still only that.
I was in the Navy with someone who was homeschooled. He was odd. He didn’t understand personal space (but to be fair it was the Navy) and didn’t relate the best to other people. However, he also didn’t understand the social cues that the other sailors knew when it was time to form a posse and be nasty to the “designated hated person”. He just didn’t fall in line when they decided to be jerks, because he wasn’t raised that way. And heck.... he was smart enough to run nuclear reactors on homeschooling so........
I recently resigned my teaching position at a public school because it was awful, and I had a better opportunity elsewhere. However, I am still interested in “pod”? teaching. I have a Masters in American History and a JD, am a Christian, and have taught economics (real economics, not woke crap), and other history classes. How do I find out about how to get involved with pod teaching or being a specialist for homeschooling? I am currently investigating the Hillsdale Classical Model and graduated from Ashland University (BA and MA). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Ping!
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
