General officers get involved in politics because that's how they become general officers. Because they are political, they lose their ability to see things objectively and they are blinded to the principle that when anything is mixed with politics, it just becomes dominated (and ruined) by politics.
This is what has happened in America. Science, education, the military, law enforcement, the DOJ (and all its tentacles), medicine, the pharmaceutical industry...even many corporations. All ruined by politics.
