We were going to go into a McDonald’s the other night when we realized our pizza place was closing soon ...none of us had been to a Micky D’s in a while.

When we got there we realized it was a big blocky building with virtually no place to gather and sit inside, because it was really just a large, faceless robotic machine in a brick shell with one or two people inside whose jobs seem to be nothing more than reaching for cash and putting lids on the drinks.

I mostly quit going to fast food places( except Steak n Shake) in the 90s when places like McDonald’s and Wendys started omitting ketchup from orders , making you ask for it. Deliberately providing bad service rather than a couple of ketchup packets was a stupid idea to save money. They could have economized by simply having their employees include a reasonable amount of condiments- instead they let them give you 16 to 20 packets for one order of fries IF you remember to ask for any catsup at all, and none if you forget.
Worse, so many places got woke and started serving drinks in cups that do not keep drinks cold, so the already over diluted contents quickly get warm and watery on hot days.

Steak n Shake remained my only go to place simply because they were the only fast food joint that still served drinks in foam cups and usually they didn’t water the soda down as much as everyone else.

But then when covid hit the supply chain got messed up and they had a hard time getting cups.

Steak n Shake has gone downhill. They’re downsizing their stores and going to a primarily drive-through take out place. Even counter seating is gone or going.

I’ve stopped going there.
