I have repeatedly asked what would have happened to a church in the UK connected to the Nazi leadership during World War II, but not one of those who support Russia in this war have answered this question.

Well probably no one has answered it because it's an obviously leading hypothetical based on things that didn't exist.

The King of England (with help from the parliament) already took over most of the churches in England as part of the English Reformation, beginning in 1529. As far as I can see the first Lutheran church organization in England was not founded until 1961.

So, the simple answer to your simple-minded question is that Zelensky is acting like a tyranical king, which Henry VIII is certainly considered. What's next from him? Maybe have his wife executed when he gets tired of her? (Has she produced a male heir for him?)

State control of the church is, therefore, an old English tradition, or history at this point.

Supporters of the Ukrainian regime keep talking about democracy, but taking over churches for any reason is anti-democratic.

Destroying a church with backhoes? Are you really trying to make some false moral equivalence or excuse that?

Somehow America managed to tolerate the existence of dozens of Russian Orthodox churches in America all throughout the Cold War. How about using that as an example that Zelensky and his orcs should adhere to?

One of the reasons for the original breakaway of the Eastern provinces is that they are Russian speaking and Orthodox. Their original desire was to have autonomous status within the larger Ukrainian state. For one thing they wanted to maintain their language and their religion.

The "church" that the Mayor here "gave" the second Orthodox church to was the OCU, which was established by the Ukrainian government in 2018-19

Here's my more likely hypothetical for you. How would an American State react (say Arizona) if a new government was elected, make Spanish the official language of the State, forbid teaching in English, and later confiscated all the Protestant churches in the State, demolishing some, and giving other to the new State-created "Protestant Church of Arizona" (PCA).

This is why many people who have heretofore supported the Zelensky regime are now starting to question that support.

As far as I know, most restrictions against the Catholic Church in the UK were repealed in the late 18th and early 19th century. The restrictions against non-conformist (=non-Anglican) Protestants were often ignored even in the 18th century. So it is completely believable that in the 1930s there could have been a Protestant church with close ties to the German establishment.

As to your Cold War Russian Orthodox Church example, there are differences. The Cold War stayed cold. The Russian Orthodox Church in America was not dependent on the Russian Church at all. It acted as an autonomus body. You can read it here: https://www.oca.org/history-archives/orthodox-christians-na

It is also clear that the Orthodox Church in America opposes the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
