The IRS hopes to increase tax audits on the wealthiest taxpayers tenfold under the Biden administration’s plan for the agency, according to a senior administration official and the IRS’s new strategic operating plan.
IRS and Treasury Department officials said Thursday that they will use $80 billion in new funding for the tax service to claw back unpaid balances from high-income earners and complex businesses — restoring audits on those taxpayers to higher rates from more than a decade ago — and boost customer service resources for middle- and low-income tax filers.
The agency plans to digitize its tax-processing pipeline and begin developing a government-backed online tax-filing software with money from the Inflation Reduction Act, one of President Biden’s chief legislative victories, officials announced in a 149-page report.

‘Wealthy’ = anyone with an income

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
A bunch of unconstitutional federal taxes would be eliminated imo if taxpayers, including rich people, got up to speed with the federal government's constitutionally limited power to appropriate taxes.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
Democrats Are Terrified Of An Educated And Informed Public (3.12.23)
Congress is limited to appropriating taxes only for what it can reasonably justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers and a few other constitutionally enumerated expenses imo.
Also, non-popularly elected bureaucrats, like those running the IRS, should not be making tax rules that citizens are expected to comply with.
After all, the drafters of the Constitution gave qualified citizen voters the express constitutional power to vote "power of the purse" House representatives out of office if taxpayers don't like how the feds are spending our tax dollars which is now a major problem imo.
In other words, post-17th Amendment ratification lawmakers have learned to protect themselves from the wrath of the voters by hiding behind non-elected federal bureaucrats whom lawmaker let get away with stealing state powers to do lawmakers' dirty, unpopular legislative work for them imo.
In FY 22, the odds that someone with an income greater than $1 million would be audited were 1.1%. That is too low a rate of audits.
—”The wealthy can afford accountant and lawyer firms.”
What is wealthy? Pls, define.
I sat through one full office audit and a couple of correspondence audits.
My accountant said to never write complaint letters to the IRS. I complained about my accounts being subject to seizure. An impoverished student at the time, the IRS wanted taxes from the two and half years in RVN!!! a few years passed.
I did OK on the full and she recommended paying the others because it cost more to fight!
You cannot win.
Start with Satan $oro$.
No, Wealthy means that you are trying to earn a paycheck and feed your family anything but bugs.
How about ZERO audits? Wouldn’t that be better?
Do you know if it’s raining outside?
“it is time to completely abolish the IRS and junk the entire tax code. “
I agree, but Who is going to abolish the IRS? Your elected leaders? Republicans? It’s a dream ..... never going to happen.
All those wealthy billionaires who vote republican, are white, go to church, and making over $18,000 a year.
I like your plan, but it will never happen.
The US FedGov will never set their wage-slaves free.
The IRSS’s definition of wealthy: Anyone drawing a private sector paycheck.
America’s problems have very little to do with a lack of IRS agents and audits......frigging morons....
...anyone donating to MAGA ....
“IRS overhaul aims for tenfold increase in audits of the wealthy”
Whatever they claim IS NOT the law, so they’ll just ignore it. They’ll do what they always do, audit the people who bring them the highest returns for the time spent.
“Move to a federal consumption tax on the sale of new consumer goods and services.”
In my opinion, if that did happen it will be because of REPUBLICANS. Unfortunately, there are far too many Republican ‘Purists’ that will only vote for Trump or a ‘pure’ Republican for the Senate.
So it’s hopeless...
Tell me what is wealthy to you?
HAHAHA!!..And poor don’t cheat and KILL!!!!!
