Homeowners in Montgomery County must apply by May 1 to get the county’s Income Tax Offset Credit (ITOC) they may have automatically received in previous years.
The state now requires every homeowner to apply for the Maryland Homestead Tax Credit before they may qualify for the county’s $692 ITOC, according to a release Tuesday from the county. Those who previously received the ITOC and who do not apply before May 1 will lose the credit and will be billed $692 on their July property tax bill.
They will not receive the credit until their application is processed, and then it would apply to future years.
According to the release, more than 80 thousand homeowners here have not yet applied for their credit.
The county’s ITOC program gives homeowners a $692 tax credit if it is their primary residence.
Homeowners can apply for the Homestead Tax Credit on the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation website or by calling the department at 410-767-2165.

SissieMaryland has been a Communist state for at least 25 years.
FYI alert
I can’t believe they’ll add it if you don’t comply. Losing out is one thing, but having to pay is quite another. Glad I left in 2014. Probably wouldn’t have been eligible but still this stinks for those who are.
I think they just posted a new form - when I clicked the MD website earlier today, they wanted tax forms, now it’s a much shorter form … trying to figure out what form Inwas looking at earlier
“COUNTY” income tax?
Yes, in addition to STATE income tax we also pay County income tax, as well as property tax
Off topic , but it would be interesting if all of us could calculate how much in total taxes we pay.
Retail sales taxes collected in tiny amounts every time we buy something, makes that somewhat difficult to calculate.
The amount of gasoline taxes is substantial, but never was listed at pumps , at least not an any state I travel in.
It would be eye opening I’m sure, if we all knew just how much in various taxes we all pay, as we go about our daily activities.
In Pennsylvania there are also per capita borough taxes.
The state of Maryland is going to process 80,000 applications in the next 25 days????
HA HA HA HA HA
I grew up in Montgomery county in the 60’s and 70’s when a lot of it was still fairly rural. It was very nice then.
If you’re in San Diego both federal and California state gasoline taxes are posted on the pump.
Maryland has like many a great States allowed the Democrats to destroy it.
I took my business to Florida and Tennessee 25 years ago with 25000 other smart people .
Don’t understand why people don’t get fed up with these Democrat Nazi’s and start to revolt. Don’t think it will be to much longer before it starts .....
Glad I’m not there to be in the middle of the war when it starts...
