Senator Anna Caballero of Merced spoke for the first time last week on her bill to grant agricultural workers permanent resident status.
In a Fresno Bee webinar, Caballero said California is “different than most of the other states. If you asked us, we’d give them all a green card.” That would enable farmworkers to qualify for all federal benefits.

Gee, I remember when Anna Caballero was saying “only de federal goberment can make de eemeegration laws” in the wake of Prop 187.
Funny how she now thinks California is a separate country.
Somebody say “secession”?
She’s a Mexican Separatist. Just like we always thought.
"We're special!"
It would be wonderful if it did become another country.
I know that’s a common feeling East of Reno, but too many Americans fought and died for this spectacular dirt, and I see no reason to hand it over to a bunch of grunting ditch monkeys who think that it’s “their” land just because the Pope said so in 1495.
Being Protestant, and English in descent, I really don’t give a damn what the Italian guy said to the Spanish guy 500 years ago.
And neither did Polk, Fremont and Carson.
Yeah, I suppose one could refer to retarded as "different."
.
As per the US Constitution, Congress has plenary power (absolute power) over immigration.
“If you asked us, we’d give them all a green card.” That would enable farmworkers to qualify for all federal benefits.”
The FIRST RULE to fighting the Leftists (Ukraine War Cheerleaders) is to understand how they think.
The above is a good example - in this case they see FEDERAL MONEY as simply money coming into their state, from some far-away entity. And they are 90% right, in that 90% of ‘federal benefits’ are paid (or more accurately: will be paid) by the 90% of America that DOES NOT live in California. In other words, the impact on our deficit/debt from handouts like this DOES NOT matter to them, since the people of California will only pay about 10% of it. It’s a bargain, in their eyes.
And what sucks is that they are right - get the rest of the country to pay, BIG TIME for local handouts, you ARE doing your job, and doing it damn good.
That’s why it’s critical to DEVOLVE this crap to the lowest level practical, which would be the state, as a minimum, and then, perhaps, the counties. Unless that is done, the people running California will simply cash-in from the feds, whenever possible, as in this case.
Are they now their own Country?
Nobody told me that and I live there so I guess I should quit paying my taxes.
why not make the whole world US citizens?? just get it over and done with.
Insanity.
I lol at it like this. Eventually the Non-Insane folks, like the ones ol that seem to be in interior and Northern California are going to finally say…Enough.
And that state will fall apart. Which is one of the reasons they’re so afraid of Pres Trump. Imagine him going to a town hall, meeting and listening to the concerns of the people and how Newsome and his ilk are doing what they’re doing. He’s the type that will do something about it.
Think of all those towns that are now in control of the cartels. That ain’t gonna last under another Trump administration. He gets told about that. He goes public and brings attention to it. Newsome is going to have about a week to do something. After that the Fed’s come in and clean house.
