Try defending yourself against murderous thugs with a firearm in Portland, and you’ll likely land in jail for a few years.

Better to just get out and shake the dust from your feet.

I visited Portland. If you don’t have a concealed carry permit there are special rules for Portland. Outside of Portland iirc you can have your pistol in the trunk.

In Portland, the gun has to be in the trunk, no magazine in the gun, and the magazine has to be unloaded. Even if the pistol and magazine are in separate compartments and the magazine is loaded, it is considered a loaded gun!

I hear all the gang-bangers that can’t get a permit carry their bullets in plastic baggies.

As I was taught, anytime a concealed carry weapon is brought out into the open, you need to understand that you might go to jail. That means you only remove your weapon from concealment, when you are certain that your life or the life of someone you care about is in danger.

So yes, if I draw my weapon for which I have a CPL in Portland, I fully understand that I may end up in jail. Another thing I was taught in an ethics class once was that the best ethics are embodied in the Cub Scout motto. If you always try to do your best, no matter what happens, you will know that you were trying to do your best. If the fates conspire against you and your are thrown in jail, then at least you will have the grim satisfaction of knowing what you did was what you thought the best thing to do, given you knowledge at that point in time.
