I think he has always seen himself as the ‘smartest, most capable guy in the room’ even when it was clear to everyone that he wasn’t.
“i graduated top of my class in law school”, when in fact he was in the bottom third of his class. “I was nominated to the Naval Academy and was going to play football, except they already had a quarterback”.
