SOUTHLAKE, Texas - The Carroll ISD school board decided to cut ties with the state's association of school boards over its diversity and inclusion policies.
It's another escalation from a district facing several federal civil rights investigations for discrimination.
TASB has a membership fee, and districts can pay additional fees for other services.
The reason the board voted 5-1 to leave the association next year is that they feel it’s taken political stances on issues that do not align with the district.
The move comes after a group of Republican Texas lawmakers sent a letter out to districts in January telling them to leave the Texas Association of School Boards over so-called "woke" policies.
The letter took issue with the TASB’s guidelines on transgender students, calling for districts to protect students from discrimination and bullying and to monitor federal law when it comes to bathroom use and other issues.
A few people showed up to Monday’s meeting to discuss the topic, but all but one was for leaving TASB.
While a majority of the school board were in agreement to leave TASB, there was some debate.
Board member Michelle Moore wanted the board to slow down the process. But Board President Cameron Bryan and others said the district shouldn’t give money to an organization with policies its members don’t agree with.
"To continue to send our community’s taxpayer dollars to an organization that pushes the very ideology that our community overwhelmingly rejected at the ballot box in May 2021, November 2021, then again in May 22 would be disingenuous at the very least to those who entrusted us to represent them," Bryan said.

Sounds like a win, why isn’t Abbott doing anything about the woke School Board?
“Sounds like a win, why isn’t Abbott doing anything about the woke School Board?”
TOTAL WIN!!! They use that operation to also get around state-mandated text books and other curriculum.
As to why Abbott doesn’t lift a finger, not sure, but most likely is that these school boards have enough elected Republicans in their pockets to stop anything, which isn’t tough since half of our state-level Republicans are to the Left of Liz Cheney.
This isn’t just a “woke school board”-it is an association of school boards-more like a union than a board-it is up to the people in each community to bring their local school board(s) into line with what they-the TAXPAYERS expect them to do...
I hope a lot more school districts do likewise.
Because He’s a RINO!
Yes that is the answer. Abbott is Pence.
They’re mostly democrats who started calling themselves repubs when Texas started not voting for demoncrats 20-30 years ago, aren’t they?

Many, perhaps most. Governor Perry was the worst of the bunch. Among other things, he tried to force HPV ‘Vaccinations’ on young girls so that they could have wild and crazy sex in high school. It was a nasty fight, but we stopped him. He insisted that his association with the company that developed the ‘vaccine’ had NOTHING to do with his policy, absolutely NOTHING, I tell you, NOTHING.
Rick’s wife is/was a nurse, she is the one who convinced him to take his position on the vaccination. It was a really dumb move.
I grew up 14 miles from the Perry’s. Have never met Rick. Know his mother and knew his father.
I know the local political landscape.
also Perry was going to sell land in Texas to a Spanish company (taking it from citizens) to build a TOLL road across Texas. The charge to drive all the way across Texas was to be 167$.
We got that stopped.
“also Perry was going to sell land in Texas to a Spanish company (taking it from citizens) to build a TOLL road across Texas. The charge to drive all the way across Texas was to be 167$. We got that stopped.”
THANK GOD, and I stayed clear of mentioning that NOTORIOUS Trans-Texas Corridor, which was something like 2000 miles of toll roads (including converting I-10 into a toll road) that our idiot (GOP) legislature Rubber Stamped. Winds up that his Transportation Secretary, Williamson, was on the board of Cintra (the Spanish company), and went back there after it was approved. This was Biden-level corruption by Perry...yet no one would go after it. After much screaming from Texans, the same idiot (GOP) legislature got the message and put a knife through it.
But I still remember the shills here, telling FReepers how wonderful it was going to be to have to pay tolls approaching 50 cents a mile to drive on what once was a FREEWAY system...those shills then disappeared, as I expect the pro-Biden Ukraine shills to do once that war is over.
“The charge to drive all the way across Texas was to be 167$. We got that stopped.”
Gads.... there were a lot of players involved in shutting down that boondoggle.
Unfortunately, another company is trying again with a bullet train from Dallas to Houston.
This shiite never ceases to amaze me.
“Unfortunately, another company is trying again with a bullet train from Dallas to Houston.”
Tell me about it. They CLAIM that they don’t need any government money, but then they hire, virtually, EVERY Ex-Lawmaker they can find to push it.
As I’ve noted here before (a couple of years ago, I think), the problem is going to be finding people who are happy commuting from downtown Dallas to downtown Houston. Sure, some will do so, buy FAR MORE will want to go between places where they won’t get robbed at gunpoint (such as airports) than expose themselves to ‘Inner City Life’.
But maybe I’m missing something and the Leftists here (Ukraine Cheerleaders) can explain the plan, as I am CLUELESS.
“... can explain the plan, as I am CLUELESS.”
Simple really.... anything to separate the taxpayers from their monies whether local, state, or federal matters not while at the same time profiting heavily from their graft and subterfuge is and has been the plan since _____________.
Nothing more than another boondoggle from yet another foreign entity that will hopefully die miserably before too much damage is done locally.
