The governor of Michigan is considered one of her party’s brightest stars. Her state’s Democratic-controlled Legislature is rapidly approving a raft of ambitious priorities. The Democratic Party is planning to host one of its earliest presidential primaries in Michigan, while the state’s Republican Party is in chaos.
Seven years after Michigan helped cement Donald J. Trump’s presidential victory, the state has transformed into a new — if fragile — focal point of Democratic power, testing the promise and pitfalls of complete Democratic governance in one of the nation’s pre-eminent political battlegrounds.
Michigan’s Democratic leaders, however, recoil at the idea that their state — once a reliable stronghold for the party in presidential years — is turning blue once more.
“No! Michigan’s not a blue state,” Ms. Whitmer insisted in an interview last week in Bay City, nestled in a windy, working-class county near Saginaw Bay that Mr. Trump won twice. Ms. Whitmer captured it too, prevailing there and across the state in Democrats’ November sweep.
“It would be a mistake for anyone to look at that and think Michigan is not still a tossup, very competitive, very diverse state that’s going to decide the outcome of the next national election again,” she said.
“Everybody thinks, Oh, Michigan’s done, it’s a blue state,” added Representative Debbie Dingell, a Michigan Democrat. “Tenuous is the operative word.”
Against that backdrop — significant victories last fall, in a state that is still closely divided — state Democrats are pursuing a flood of liberal legislation, while measuring the durability of an unwieldy coalition that defeated Republicans in the last three elections.

Mi is gone. The rats stole the Mi SC which set up everything else. Last “election” they welded the door shut by tossing all the voter fraud protections.
The NYT is being generous. MI is deep blue. Trump has zero chance there.
There is still a sizable electorate in Michigan that is Republican.
The leadership there simply has to get its head way out of the clouds and begin to actually push back.
2016 was an anomaly. Hillary was hated by everybody except for the feminist woke brigade.
Michigan is NOT a deep blue state, nor even purple. It's a mild red.
The Republicans enjoy winning their safe seats, and collecting their pay and pensions.

My political instincts are showing this despicable lockdown tyrant narcissist is part of a big surge of woke Leftists that has made this a reliable always Dem Blue state abomination.

Once the leaked Roe decision was a rumor before the actual decision it made the Dems agitated and energetic. This Proposal 3 all-out full abortion constitutional rights turnout was even higher than the earlier one for the legal marijuana proposal.
Michigan has had two Dem US Senators for a long time.
Now has a narrow command of Michigan Legislature’s House and Senate which just quickly and cheerfully passed more anti-gun rights legislation to a breathlessly admiring Dem audience of voters. Local news is nearly all unpaid Dem public relations officers.
Burgeoning Dem alien registered voting going up again and there’s another big bloc of young first time voters eager to make US into a climate change fundamentally transformed woke state. Four major universities churn out 90% Dem voters and campaign volunteers.
Wayne (Detroit), Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw Counties vote big Dem majorities all the time and overwhelm the outstate votes despite their being 80% of the territory.
I hate being her. I hate the people of Michigan.
And conclude this is now a Red state.

The Democrats are hardcore leftists. The Republicans are squishy moderates and RINOs.
One side is engaged in a war while the other side is debating political ideologies.
I put the blame squarely on the voters. They kept reelecting moderates and RINOs who refused to fight. Now it’s too late. The same thing happened in other states. See Washington state, Pennsylvania and Georgia.
Make that nation. EVs will be a federal mandate. Soon there will be a carbon tax on gasoline. You can drive your beat up ICE vehicle. But they will get all of that off the road (by 2050?).
Guess we’ll soon find out if the Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania going red in 2016 was just a blip and they return to reliably democrat strongholds or if they remain competitive. Without them it will be damn near impossible for Republicans to ever win a Presidential election again, as they would have to run the table with red and purple states and even get quickly “bluing” states like Virginia, Georgia and Arizona.
Virginia is out. Georgia and Arizona, we have a chance. Trump's history. The Democrats are woke. The Hispanics are not. DeSantis' message is perfect for the Hispanics. We need to end our infatuation with Trump.
In spite of how the rest of the state votes, massive vote fraud in Detroit determines the outcome. That won’t be easy to change.
