The Rep ran a horrible campaign, but it’s all good. As long as Republicans control the legislature, that checks him.

You would be amazed how many people don’t know what they vote for their advice comes from ads and media.

There were videos of his challenger losing votes as election night unfolded.

It’s was in late 2020 after that election fiasco that someone posted the video showing that losing votes is a real thing.

So there’s the possibility that’s not the Governor Kentucky elected.

Several reasons.
*Family name. Beshears are a KY dynasty. Daddy was governor (also corrupt) People are stupid and vote for family names.

*Matt Bevin tried to do too much of the right thing (reforming KY pensions) too soon. He also went head on with the state employees unions - particularly the teachers union. He pointedly called them what they are - publicly - bad PR. He got creamed for that.

*Beshear won by a little more than 4K votes, carrying some counties that usually vote 90% Republican (yeah)

*Louisville and Lexington are uber leftist.

*Beshear promised to keep the unsustainable pension gravy train running for the state employees and teachers

*If Bevin had left the pension reform until a lame duck second term he would be governor now.

Some of it is being he was not considered a Kentuckian. He was born in Colorado and raised in liberal New Hampshire. He only moved to the state in 1999. I live across the river in Indiana but my parents live in Ky and they felt he was a rino to some degree and just stayed home.

So I think he partially just didnt raise much enthusiasm although sure he would be better than a democrap.
