Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear was excoriated by his Republican challengers over the weekend for choosing to veto a bill that would ban gender transition surgeries for minors, prohibit school discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity, and prevent teachers from being forced to use a student's preferred pronouns.
The bill, SB 150, was passed by state lawmakers along party lines earlier this month before heading to Beshear's desk last week.
"As a mother and grandmother, I think the fact that we’re even having this conversation is insanity," Republican candidate and former U.N. Ambassador Kelly Craft said in a statement. "This movement across the nation to impose radical gender ideology on our kids instead of improving reading, writing, and math skills, is wrong."
...
Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, who is also seeking the GOP nomination, blasted Beshear in a statement, saying his veto showed he aligned with the "radical far-left" of the Democratic Party.
"Gender reassignment surgeries for children and minors should not be allowed in Kentucky and teachers should have certain protections in the classroom when it comes to their own personal beliefs," Quarles said.
...
The state's attorney general, Daniel Cameron, another Republican candidate, echoed the sentiment of Craft and Quarles, but said in a statement that he wasn't surprised to see Beshear veto the bill.
"If I were Governor I would have absolutely signed it," he said, before slamming the liberal media's coverage of the bill, calling it "shameful gaslighting."
"The action by our governor not only sets a dangerous precedent for our children's future, but also endangers their health and well-being. Even many liberal European countries are putting the brakes on these surgeries and other gender therapies for minors. Meanwhile, in America, Democrats call it extreme to oppose chemical castration and gender mutilation of minors,"

Beshear defended his veto in a statement saying the bill allowed "too much government interference in personal healthcare issues and rips away the freedom of parents to make medical decisions for their children." He added that it would also cause educators and school administrators to "listen in on student conversations" and "confront" or "question" parents over what they hear. "I am also vetoing Senate Bill 150 because my faith teaches me that all children are children of God and Senate Bill 150 will endanger the children of Kentucky," he said, before stressing it was "important" to improve access to gender-affirming care, and predicting the bill would lead to an increase in suicide among Kentucky's youth.
The legislature has the votes to override (I think).
But King Andy waits to the end of the legislative session to veto it, so I don’t know if there is time for a new vote. IMO, the law should state that the legislature must have time/opportunity to vote on vetoed laws.
I despise that SOB. Whole family is corrupt.
Because we have a part time legislature, King Andy frequently issues illegal EOs in the off time knowing that he’s got 9 months before anything can be done about them. We got screwed with a bunch of covid crap because of that.
The last sentence is something I’ve heard quite a bit, that the so called transgender youth commit suicide if they don’t get hormone shots and surgery.
Liberals set up the debate , that if you oppose these transgender treatments, you are condemning youth to suicide
Gender reassignment for minors is child abuse. Never has a society been so determined to go along with the mental illness of not only a child but the parents as well.
He’s collaborating with the Drag Queen terrorists.
Unfortunately, the amendment to allow the legislature to call itself into special session with the agreement of the presiding officers of both chambers was defeated last year. This was proposed in response to Beshear being able to do whatever he wanted without any oversight during the COVID pandemic. People were throwing fits on the GOP social media pages attacking the Republican controlled legislature for letting him do everything indefinitely, but they had absolutely no way of intervening. And now they still don’t with the failure of the amendment.
Andy is a perverted homo promoting pedofelia.
Indicates he has national ambitions, most likely.
I believe even his father would have signed this bill.
“too much government interference in personal healthcare issues and rips away the freedom of parents to make medical decisions for their children.”
But it often is not a well thought out essential medical decisions. It is very simply a money maker for doctors and institutions. This means there is no incentive to find out if a diagnosis of gender dysphoria is truly warranted. It certainly is never essential that hormone replacement or surgery be done at such a young age.
Going through puberty has to be essential to physical, emotional, and mental health or we humans would go directly from pre-puberty to adulthood. But we were designed otherwise. Blocking that can’t be beneficial and is likely dangerous.
Why would demons want to vacation in Kentucky?
Yes, absurd argument to justify this kind of child abuse. Nothing to justify or support those kinds of statements. Pure deflection.
Quite a stretch to suggest mutilation and amputation of healthy organs and drugs to block the body’s natural development is “healthcare.” Just another lie by the Left.
“(Kentucky) Democrat governor excoriated for vetoing bill banning gender transition surgery for minors: ‘Insanity’”
In Russia he’d be JAILED for that stunt, probably the same in Hungary, and even Poland (for now).
Beshithead
Are minors in Kentucky permitted to get tattoos before age 18?
Receive drugs without adult signatures?
They suicide in large numbers even if they get so-called “gender affirming” drugs and surgeries.
Chemical castration and sexual mutilation of minors. It is plain and simple evil.
Yep.
How in God’s name can KY possibly have a Rat Governor???
