You are telling me! We have had unworthy popes before, and the doctrines survive. You do not have to go far to find good priests and even bishops openly defending the Church’s teaching. (Bishops doing this is somewhat recent.) The folks who stand up for marriage and against perversion in the mainline Protestant denominations have either split off, died off, or got quiet as far as I can tell, at least those in positions of authority.
