It’s telling that the author went to urban Amsterdam, read every book about Dutch history, society, art and culture, customs and character, etc., yet had no clue about the Netherland’s farm economy. Because the book-writing cultural elitists don’t miss many meals but look down on farmers as rural idiots who don’t exist.
I wonder if they felt that way about farmers back during the “Hongerwinter” of 1944?
