Instead of what Trump is putting out, if he wants to win the election, he must concentrate of policy issues - the border, inflation, Russia-China, Iran, North Korea, the state of our military, our educational system. That will automatically smother the Lefties without dividing conservatives and making himself look like a teen-aged showboat.

Trump does not do this to widen appeal. The jackass comments are meant to jazz up his base - it is rally season. This is Trump's primary face. Like all politicians, he'll get out his general face later.
The Art of his 2024 Deal is in having The Don's bully personality campaigning as the politician version of George Floyd victim-in-chief. Flawed people can still be popular if perceived as a victim of corrupt power. The sympathy vote. People on the Right already know he is such a victim. He plays this angle up and will continue till November next because it is true and it appeals to middle and Right. Especially to emotion-driven voters.
Trump loves the NY case. He would not be where he is today in the polls without it.
