NATO now has parked on the border of Russia the greatest offensive military behemoth the world has ever seen. You are failing to distinguish between NATO and the old Warsaw Pact/ the present Russian attempts as expansion. NATO is a voluntary union of mutual self-defense. The Warsaw Pact and the present Russian attempts at expansion are the act of subjugation against unwilling peoples. Because the free nations of the west have joined together in mutual self-defense does not give Russia the right to impose its own sphere of influence on others.

Yes, if countries like Estonia and Latvia weren't in NATO they would have been either invaded by Putin or forced to sign some "neutrality" agreement putting them under Russia hegemony.
