President Biden said on Friday that he had the “strong inclination” not to approve of the Willow Project — a major oil project in Alaska — but did so out of concern for the legal ramifications.

“My strong inclination was to disapprove of it across the board but the advice I got from counsel was that if that were the case, I may very well lose…that case in court to the oil company and then not be able to do what I really want to do beyond that,” Biden said during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Well, I presume that a deal with Murkowski for something else he wants overrode is legalistic qualms.

I’m not understanding why a president should have the power to approve (or disapprove) such things. All of these decisions should be made by Congress.

It’s the president’s job to carry out policy, not make policy.

I know, I’m just dreaming. We live in the age of the imperial presidency. Presidents can do pretty much whatever they want, including starting major wars.

They had a signed contract, which they would have been sued for at least 10 billion and lost. That is why he ‘decided’ to honor the agreement.
