Stephen Talbot knew that taking on a project about the Vietnam War was going to be an incredible task.
There were going to be hours of research, as well as dozens of interviews planned.
Then the pandemic hit in March 2020 and it looked like the project wasn’t going to move forward.
Then Talbot got an idea.
“I thought, what if I did all of the interviews audio only,” he says. “This made sure everyone was safe and I had the information that I needed.”
Flash forward a few years and Talbot’s “The Movement and the ‘Madman’ ” will premiere on New Mexico PBS, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.
The documentary is presented under the American Experience series and it will also stream online on the PBS app.
“The Movement and the ‘Madman’ ” shows how two antiwar protests in the fall of 1969 – the largest the country had ever seen – pressured President Nixon to cancel what he called his “madman” plans for a massive escalation of the U.S. war in Vietnam, including a threat to use nuclear weapons.
At the time, protesters had no idea how influential they could be and how many lives they may have saved.

Vietnam is an ally against the Chinese.
Even Ho Chi Minh said, he’d rather smell French s__t for five years, than Chinese s__t for a thousand years.
60,000,000 dead since Roe. We know who the real baby killers are, and it wasn't our troops.
Yeah, that is nonsense, the generation is boomer, you are a boomer, and there is no ‘boomer philosophy’.
The under-30s were the biggest supporters of the Vietnam war of any age group and produced 10 million boomer veterans, Nixon won 52% of the under-30 vote in 1972, Wallace about 2% the democrat 46%.
Just about any figure you can name from the famous 1960s wasn’t a boomer.
Hey I’m just saying I was in elementary and middle school on the 60s and I was a freshman in 1968. I wasn’t involved with any of that Boomer s***.
I had the benefit of being in high school during Watergate and I was in college for a year during the gas crisis and the bottom fell out of the construction industry and I went in the military in 1976 but I was not a boomer and this Bommer2/Jones has been floating around for at least 20 years, Jones is more recent.
Writers can create any categories they want to, and they do, sometimes it is useful to them or advertisers or for a study or such, but the official categories are the real categories and the ones people talk about and are talking about.
And I still don’t know what you mean about “that Boomer s***”, boomer.
You seem to have some weird ideas about modern American history.
According to the logic for voting against this bill, an infant breathing air on its own outside the womb is not a fully human person. The medical personnel in attendance are not only absolved from any criticism in failing to provide care, but instead must intervene to kill the baby.
Now read the bill and to see if that not is a reasonable interpretation. So maybe this why we just can’t all just get along.
