DeSantis' Ukraine u-turn: Florida Governor now says his 'territorial dispute' comments were 'mischaracterized', calls Putin a war criminal and says Russia is 'basically a gas station with a nuclear weapons'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sought to clean up comments where he called Russia's brutal war on Ukraine a 'territorial dispute' after drawing rebukes against 'isolationism' but praise from Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

'Well, I think it's been mischaracterized. Obviously, Russia invaded — that was wrong. They invaded Crimea and took that in 2014 — That was wrong,' DeSantis told Piers Morgan in an interview more than a week after his initial comments.

He also rolled out tough talk against Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a 'war criminal' and saying he should be 'held accountable,' while dissing Russia as 'basically a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons' during a week when Putin huddled with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow.

Trump would never go in for branding the leader of a nuclear power a war criminal.

Individuals of that nature are to be dealt with, negotiated with, out-negotisted if possible, but not virtue-signaled against.

DS will take us to WWIII in Taiwan or Iran.

Russia/Ukraine will be over before he could become POTUS.

The problem with expansionistic dictators is that they quickly become everyone’s problem. Best to nip it in the bud.

He said what he said. It was only about a week or 2 ago. It was an air tight statement and pretty self explanatory. It was obviously thought out, it didn’t need clarification...he’s walking it back...for what reason? Who is he trying to please. Trump took so many darts with TPP, Paris accords NATO statements and never felt the need to walk it back to keep donors happy. Who in the world thinks this guy could have done what Trump did as President? Not even close. Jerusalem as the capitol? No way no how. Trump was under tremendous pressure. Trump made it all look easy. It was not and couldn’t have been done by anyone else. Appreciate President Trump....all the more with this walk back

No, you forget Crimea. He has a plan and Moldova and Poland are next.

Sounds like a flip-flop to this One Guy.

His initial statement was strong, a good first statement. Was the problem that he sounded too much like Trump?

DeSantis has revealed himself to be a not ready for prime time lightweight.

“The problem with expansionistic dictators is that they quickly become everyone’s problem. Best to nip it in the bud.”

Unfortunately the WEF got quite far (taking control of Europe, North America, Japan, and other countries), but it looks as though Russia will FINALLY be the country to stop them, in Ukraine.

I agree with you, but I think it's actually worse than that. It's more than just him listening to advisors. On the matter of Ukraine specifically, DeSantis has been given a "good talking to." In the GOP, a person repudiates the neo-Con warmonger class at his or her peril. DeSantis obviously caved, and almost immediately, by the looks of it.

That is it exactly..."if you want to get our cash you got to play our game".

Another Fng neocon jackass in the making?

I must say, remarkable coincidence that DeSantis ended up with the press secretary he has:

link

Christina Pushaw, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Press Secretary, registered as a foreign agent who worked on behalf of a Ukrainian politician.

The controversial spokesperson provided paid consultation for Mikheil Saakashvili, former President of the Republic of Georgia, between October 2018 and October 2020, according to federal disclosures received Monday. The disclosures were first reported by The Washington Post.

Pushaw was hired as DeSantis’ Press Secretary in May 2021.
