‘this Court explained in Heller that the right to keep and bear arms belongs only to ‘law-abiding, responsible citizens,’” DOJ wrote’

Sorry, but a restraining order isn’t sufficient to demonstrate that someone isn’t law-abiding or responsible. All you need in order to obtain a restraining order is an allegation, and a willing judge. That’s not due process.

Not having a fire-arm will not prevent an abusive spouse from murdering his ex for getting a restraining order. A baseball bat or knife is way more exciting an option, I would speculate. Make sure the abusee has a gun to equalize it a bit. Easy to make allegations and get a restraining order against the target, claim she threw something at you or hit you with a rolling pin. Then she’s disarmed and waiting for pappa to come home and finish her.

I’m not sure it even *implies* a person isn’t law-abiding or responsible, as they are given prophylactically - in case.
