countries are starting to see electric vehicle batteries piling up in scrapyards, according to Reuters.”

Just wait til that dumpster fire starts.

If the EPA is fine with burning 3 rail cars worth of vinyl chloride in an open burn pit

,, pretty sure they will be fine with it.

(unless a citizen is burning them )

Thanks for citing facts. A lot of stories are posted on FR just to generate outrage.

Ain't that the truth! Apparently some people can't make it through the day without a big ol' cup of outrage to get them worked up.

I’m in that industry. It is a problem. No one wants the batteries. Yards have also had ones that were damaged months earlier combust in the yard. One yard owner joked “I hope the whole pile bursts in to flames. Then I won’t have to pay 4 dollars a pound to get rid of them”

I thought Tesla had their own recycling program but at this point we do not accept anything with a lithium ion or nickel metal hydrate battery at our yard.

Pretty much every car maker has committed to all EV within 7 years. The stupidity of this is painful.

One of my wife’s friends decided to keep her ten year old Prius and is on her third battery. The two battery replacements have totaled almost $15,000. While so far the engine and other components have held up it is only a matter of time when these will have problems. I fail to see the economics of replacing these batteries.

I expect that car insurance for EVs will become very costly due to repair costs and of course the potential fire hazard. Buying a used EV especially one beyond any warranty for battery replacement will be in my opinion quite a financial risk.

Ev's. The "green machines" that are powered by coal or natural gas. And a teeny tiny bit by nuclear.

The worst thing about Better Place was that it only worked on a Renault.

It would take more than $5000, but I get your point. Could you imaging a Tesla with a blower sticking out of the hood?

Insurance companies already are doing a ‘total’ when the air bags get deployed.

Apparently, reinstalling new ones is also VERY Expensive.

I always thought air bags should be an option.

It is not liberal propaganda.

Describing observations of Tesla disruption is business.

GM, Ford and Chrysler are struggling while Tesla is not only thriving but growing. Tesla recently had a day long meeting for investors that can be considered propaganda but since it was actuality mostly reality, the messages regarding all the various aspects of Tesla innovation that is real and present, the legacy manufacturing competition sees doom.

I can’t see the future but believe it is Tesla and Toyota.

This is terribly misleading coverage. You can absolutely replace an EV battery pack. And Tesla does it frequently.

That is not very good advertising for Tesla. Joking aside, it makes sense that they wouldn't want unknown third parties making battery warranty repairs. If they have to replace a bad battery under warranty, they do it with a factory refurbished battery.
