Putin makes first trip to occupied Ukrainian city with stop in Mariupol
The Washington Times ^ | March 19, 2023 | David R. Sands

In a show of defiance just a day after an international court called for his arrest for war crimes, Russian President Vladimir Putin late Saturday evening made his first visit to a Ukrainian city captured in Russia’s nearly 13-month-old invasion of its neighbor.

Russian news reports said that Mr. Putin followed up a stop in Crimea, the peninsula he forcibly annexed from Ukraine in 2014, with a surprise visit to Mariupol, an industrial center on the country’s Black Sea coastline that was the site of one of the most memorable battles of the war.

Russian forces finally took control of the city after a long siege in May 2022 as outnumbered Ukrainian defenders held out in the city’s massive Azovstal steel works complex for more than three months.

Busy man, but do remember China’s President is traveling to Moscow for a visit with Vlad on Monday.

The world needs to prepare for the new Sheriffs in town. The war cheerleaders aren’t going to like the results.

The city isn't occupied. It's part of the Russian Federation.

The people of Mariupol resisted the illegal coup by Ukrainian nationalists from the get-go in 2014. Ukrainian nationalists rolled in with tanks and had a fire fight with the local police.

The EU is trying to start a drive south to Tokmak. If they take that, Crimea is screwed, and Mariupol might not be far behind.

Videos this morning showed him surrounded by adoring crowds of 4-6 people, praising him for rebuilding the city he razed to the ground, killing many former residents, and deporting to Russia its children.

Putin has conquered the West; we just don’t see it yet. Our petrodollar currency will soon be worthless (or close to it) thanks to the BRICs nations and the engineered collapse of the Swiss banks. Much was self-inflicted.

It is Biden’s war, the US and the Ukies have repeatedly refused any negotiations. Trump and China are the only figures to call for Peace….

Love it!!! Goes to Ukraine and DOES NOT get arrested. Says a lot about how serious the West is about arresting him. All fake, OBVIOUSLY.

You will not only like the results you think will follow, you will stand up and cheer.

If you are in the US, get out of my country and return to your beloved Russia. If you ever were an American, we will forget that you were once our countryman.

A nation refusing to surrender any of its territory to an invader, imagine that.

“The city isn’t occupied. It’s part of the Russian Federation.”

It’s occupied. Just because Russia claims in is now part of Russia doesn’t make it so. No matter how much you desire it.

There are border towns in Texas that are “occupied” by Mexicans who claim allegiance to Mexico. That does not make those towns part of Mexico, no matter how much “Hugs” Obrador may wish it.

Which EU divisions are doing all this war fighting in Ukraine, do you have any unit designations or what EU bases they are being sent from?

The Ukies are spent, have been for awhile. Their existence depends entirely on western welfare, arms, and money.

The collective West is broke, further unpayable debt while Vlad brings in billions.

It is obvious this war ends on Vlad’s terms, meanwhile he continues to bleed the West in arms, money and men…..strange how it turned out, twinkle toes Miley’s strategy of wearing Vlad down has been reversed.

” Trump and China are the only figures to call for Peace….”

Have you even read the “12 Points” of the Chinese “proposal?” They could have been — and probably were — written by the Kremlin, as the Kremlin has wholeheartedly endorsed it. Ukraine, on the other hand, was pretty non-committal, just taking a “the devil’s in the details” approach. The 12-pont plan, as reported, greatly favors Russia.

And China’s meaningless statement that borders must be respected? What borders, and whose borders; and borders claimed by whom? China — not surprisingly — does not say; which likely benefits Russia.

Moreover, China is NOT a neutral, as it signed a pact with Russia BEFORE the 2022 invasion that creates an “unlimited” friendship between the two. Thus, China cannot be seen as a non-partisan mediator of this dispute.

No, it's a part of Russian Federation. The people voted in those regions to join Russia and the Russian government voted to approve their request to join.

If you don't like, too freepin' bad. There is ANYTHING that will change that. Not even is we decided to enter the war ourselves and setoff WWIII.

IIRC there were two choices: 1. Independence or, 2. Joining Russia. Staying with Ukraine was not an option.
