During the Trump administration, Russia and China set a goal of reaching $200 billion dollars in trade by 2024, it is now 2023 and it looks like they will make it and even beat it by months.
In 2013 Trade between China and Russia was breaking new records and leading to articles such as this from April 12, 2013 “A Russia-China Alliance Brewing?”.
With growth like this:
“In 2012, the bilateral trade volume between China and Russia reached about US $88.15 billion, breaking the previous maximum compared with the previous quota in history. China has become Russia’s largest trading partner for the second consecutive year. In 2013, the bilateral trade volume between China and Russia reached US$89.21 billion, realizing continuous growth.”
And your point is? My point is that in 2013 the average Russian liked the American more than he liked Chinese, the the percentage of Chinese trade made about 10-15% in total Russian trade. Europe made 40-60% and it have been this way since the 16th century.
You could barely buy a Chinese-made appliance in Russia, everything from blender to a fridge was of local of European make.
Now, China and Europe reversed in importance for Russia, for the first time in centuries Russia can afford to spit on Europe, and on the West in general.
