Because of the war in Ukraine, the United States, other NATO countries and allies outside of NATO are increasing weapons research, development, manufacturing capacity, and production.
War is the health of the state.
The state is not your friend.
The question arises whether the Western powers can sustain a military buildup in the long run. Manufacturing is not “green”. It requires mining, refining, and lots of power. Then there are the demands of the welfare state. France is experiencing a lot of civil unrest because their government is proposing raising the retirement age to 64. Especially if the war ends with a Russian defeat, the impetus to rearm will diminish.
