When you join the US Armed Forces you relinquish at least a few rights that you had before you enlisted.I’m probably in the minority here on FR but I’m inclined to support a reg forbidding gun ownership on a military installation. Yes,it’s crazy in a way,but....

We didn't seem to have any trouble in Submarines.
We had private firearms everywhere, WestPac Deployment, Home Port Training, yards, drydock, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, New Zealand, Australia (when they were Nations).
Must be a new thing.

So of course, when there's a shooting on base, no one's able to defend themselves, just like a school. Fish in a barrel. Maj Hassan (?) already figured that one out...
Federal military installations already prohibit gun possession on base. If you're active duty stationed there, you can sometimes check private arms in with the MP station, but no one's allowed to carry them around the base. NG stuff varies, but at least here in TX we're allowed to carry on State property, just not when going to federal places (like Ft Hood or Reserve bases).
And how do you enforce a ban on servicemembers up to 25? If regular Joe can go buy stuff at 18, how is DoD going to make every gun shop owner verify if someone young-looking is in the military before (not) selling to them? It's not like you're locked down on base until you turn 25, and no gun shop is going to check if you're over 25 because they checked if you were in the military. Hell, some States (like TX) even allow you to get your CHL at 18 (instead of 21) if you're in the military!
