Looks to me like she’s bucking for tenure.
Associate Professors usually have tenure. It’s Assistant Professors who don’t. But she can still hope to get promoted to Full Professor. Showing that she is full of it may be her strategy.
With this kind of stupidity she, (they??) will soon be head of the department.
