China has invested a large amount of money in hypersonic missiles with one goal in mind – keeping the US at bay in the event of war.
Whether it’s aircraft carriers or the US air base on Guam, the Chinese military believes the missiles can give them an edge and have been described as “game changers” by Western experts.
They differ from ballistic missiles in that they comprise a rocket that flies to around 25 miles above the earth which then unleashes a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle. The detached HGV uses the Earth’s gravity to descend at speeds of up to 7700 mph.In contrast to ballistic missiles the HGV can be steered in flight making them a terrifying adversary and particularly dangerous to large warships such as aircraft carriers.
The Chinese launched two hypersonic nuclear missiles which circled the Earth and "defied the laws of physics" back in 2021. Its newest missile in actual service, the DF-17, became fully into operation at the beginning of January after first seen at a parade in Beijing in 2019.
According to the US military, it is accurate to within a few yards and is capable of “extreme maneuvers” and “evasive actions”.Its relatively low cost means the Chinese military can fire scores of them if a first attempt fails.

Yeah but before that could happen Brandon would have to let a Chinese spy balloon 🎈 float over major U.S. military installations.....
Oh......wait.......
Oh, please.
China needs to bombed back to the 1940s and kept there.
“extreme maneuvers”
At Mach 10?
An EMP covering the US would be lethal without doing much collateral damage. 90 of Americans would be dead within 3-4 months and all the farmland would be untouched.
These “Experts” are clueless about technology. Missile targeting is done with infrared lasers, and a ‘curtain’ of lasers like that would only confuse them. Although if those ARE Chinese satellite lasers, I guess they could be using them like chaff to confuse us targeting them.
And “hypersonic” and “extreme maneuverability” are mutually exclusive unless they have somehow figured out a way to suspend the laws of physics.
With today’s US military, who knows.
But we should have a stockpile of EMP-Nukes that can take out all electronics in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen at a minimum.
Three Gorges dam as a nuke target too
It will be a very bad day for any non US Chinese in Hawaii , if China attacks Hawaii......
The DF-ZF glide vehicle, sent near a target by the DF-17 missile, is capable of good maneuverability at speed, because it’s a glide vehicle. The DF-17 is short range, though (a little over a thousand miles).
Where have we heard that before?;-)
If China did defy the laws of physics, perhaps they stole/borrowed/back-engineered intellectual property from someone else.
Of interest.
