Treasury Department Secretary Janet Yellen acknowledged on Friday that 90 percent of IRS audits will be conducted on small businesses and families, not billionaires.
Testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) questioned Yellen on the ambiguity of her opening statement. Smith prefaced his question by noting the 87,000 new IRS agents hired at the agency over the next decade to conduct tax enforcement on Americans.
“Regarding the audits, there has been confusion about the meaning of the directive that you cited,” Smith said in his line of questioning. “Are you talking about the total number of audits or the proportion of audits on families and small businesses under 400,000 dollars?”
“I’m talking about the proportion of those small businesses and families,” Yellen admitted.

Can’t have Democrat donors be audited!
In other words a useful idiot.
Well at least they got her to admit what any sane person already knew.
So register Democrat and kick $12 a month to the DNC. Just enough to maintain an existence on their mailing lists but not enough to afford anything but your protection.

Okay morons that voted for adding 87,000 IRS agents, here’s a simple math test for you. There’s approximately 975 billionaires in the United States. If you assign a dedicated personal IRS agent to each billionaire, how many of the 87,000 IRS agents have nothing to do? Bonus points: what do you do with the remainder to justify their sorry ass existence.
Bingo.
Evil old bag who keeps failing upward. Hope she gets vaxx cancer.
Give them guns 'n' ammo to play with!
Not so certain about that “useful” part.
Like we said...
Beltway useful.
Only 1.8% of people in the US have an annual household income of over 400,000 so of course 90% of audits would be on those making less than 400,000
The jackasses that came up with taxing the fruits of the labor of a working man’s hands has got to have a very special place in hell. Q
There’s only ~400 billionaires.
The 87,000 IRS agents everyone is up in arms about will not be hired at the same time, but over a ten year period. Many will replace employees lost through attrition. And they are not all IRS agents. As in many organizations, there are varied jobs, like call center and customer service reps, property management people, support staff, etc. Jeez
I want to report an unusual incident. I filed a paper tax return the second week in February this year, and actually got my direct deposited refund this week. Last year I had to wait 6 months before they even acknowledged receipt of my return, and had to claim the interest on my 2022 refund. There were a lot of people like me last year on FR, who were still waiting for their refunds at the same time last year. I just wanted to give them a heads-up that they might not have to wait as long this year, depending on how complicated their returns are. I’m a senior citizen, have nothing and no one to claim, and file the short form.
For an agency, that could be pretty much eliminated with a flat tax. Jeez. The IRS. Just another enemy of the American people.
