Ukrainian soldiers are being pummelled on three sides by Russian forces who are trying to capture Bakhmut, a city in the eastern Donetsk region that has become the focus of the longest and one of the bloodiest battles since the war began.
Ukraine’s authorities insist they will continue to try to hold the city despite them suffering an estimated 100-200 casualties a day – with some saying the reason is more political and symbolic than practical. Retreating from the city now, after so many soldiers died fighting to keep it, would be a hard reality to face.
The Russian push for Bakhmut started in July and intensified in the autumn after Moscow mobilised thousands of men, many of whom were Russian prisoners who signed up with the promise of freedom after six months of service.
Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, told CNN in an interview that retreating from Bakhmut would “open the road” for Russian forces to attack the neighbouring Ukrainian-controlled towns of Kostiantynivka and Kramatorsk.
“I hope we don’t have to leave, but we will if [the frontline] comes to us,” said Dmytro Yakovensko, a doctor working in the children’s hospital in Kramatorsk. Kramatorsk has been relatively quiet in recent weeks, as Russian forces have concentrated their firepower on Bakhmut.

“So many gullible freepers believing the msm lies and acting righteously.”
I’m convinced that the long-time Ukraine Cheerleaders understand the truth, as anyone here that long knows how to find unbiased information. But they likely answer to others, as we saw with Twitter.
Thank you!!
Thank You Take 2!!
You're ignorant buffoon if you refuse to acknowledge that a civil war has been going since 2014 pitting Ukrainian nationalists, including neo-Nazis, against ethnic Russians, one we setoff by meddling in Ukraine.
All you and your ilk do is lie.
Thank You Take 3!!
The Wagner group, not the regular Russian military, is kicking the Ukrainian army's ass:

They say that Russian artillery, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers are often allowed to strike Ukrainian positions for hours or days without being shut down by Ukrainian heavy weapons. Some complained of poor coordination and situational awareness, allowing this to happen or making it even worse.
Mortarmen spoke of extreme ammunition scarcity and having to use weapons dating back to World War II. Drones that are supposed to provide critical reconnaissance information are also scarce and are being lost at very high rates in some parts of the battlefield.
All this leads to terrifying casualties of both dead and wounded. "The battalion came in in the middle of December… between all the different platoons, there were 500 of us," says Borys, a combat medic from Odesa Oblast fighting around Bakhmut. "A month ago, there were literally 150 of us."
“When you go out to the position, it’s not even a 50/50 chance that you’ll come out of there (alive),” says the older Serhiy. “It’s more like 30/70.”

I'll bet this driver knows...
"In fairness, 🇺🇦 is doing better than 🇷🇺 in aggregate and individual men have a limited picture of the battlefield, so I'm not making any assumptions about what command's doing."War is not a one sided affair. It is equally horrific for both sides. He was doing his job evenhandedly, reporting how bad it was for Ukraine around Bakhmut."But it'd be remiss of me not to write what those guys told me about their personal experiences."
He still thinks the Russians have it worse. If its as bad as he says it is for Ukraine, how bad is it for the Russians if they have it even worse?
Your constant repetition of lies won’t make them true. Russia has been at war with Ukraine for the past eight years. The reports of the OSCE observers do not support your false claims of “murder” or “genocide”, but they have reported that the Russian proxy forces did routinely violated the ceasefire from positions next to hospitals, schools, and apartments, using the civilian population as human shields. It’s been eight years of constant provocations by the Russians and their paid proxies.
You mean the militias that Russia has raised from the ethnic Russian minority to force their will upon the Ukrainian majority in Donetsk and Luhansk?
Uke military should hang Z-ski for all that he has sent there to hopelessly and needlessly die there. The last Uke don’t have to die if they ceasefire..

Many people confuse majority Russian speaking with majority ethnic Russian. While the majority of Donbas is Russian speaking, this includes a large number of Russian speaking Ukrainians. The majority of the population actually identifies as Ukrainian, not Russian. Donetsk is 57% Ukrainian and only 38% Russian. Luhansk is 58% Ukrainian and only 39% Russian. I refer you to the 2001 census.
As for identifying Ukraine on a map, perhaps these maps could help to better understand the true ethnic composition of Donbas:
Share of ethnic ukrainians among the population of Ukraine, census 2001
Settlement of Russians in Ukraine according to the 2001 census
