You don’t mention President Trump’s sanctioning of Nordstream2 and Biden lifting them. Why is that?
Whataboutism.
It’s not germane to the subject at hand. Why should I mention it?
But now that you bring it up, the Dems and neocons were clamoring for it. In the midst of Russia-Russia-Russia. What else could he do?
The thing is, the supplier is just as dependent on its major market as the market is dependent on its major supplier. Had we not spent the past few decades pushing and pushing a very reluctant Russia into the arms of her traditional enemy China, it would be the Chinese lacking cheap Russian gas. But we were stupid.
We built up China (now a near-peer rival) and went to great lengths to make Russia (which desperately wanted to join the West and can never be anything other than a distant #3 Great Power behind the US and China) a reluctant enemy of ours and ally of China. And they started building those big fat pipelines to China. Yes, we were very stupid. I have thought so for the past 25+ years.
Now we are dependent on China for many essential goods, but we are no longer China’s major market, so they are no longer dependent on us, really. Oops!
