San Francisco has a new farmers market just for cannabis

There's a new type of farmers market in San Francisco, but instead of buying fruits and vegetables, customers get to buy a famous California crop that is best enjoyed smoked.

This market is dedicated entirely to cannabis.

The new monthly event takes place at one of two downtown San Francisco dispensaries: Moe Greens on Market Street and Barbary Coast on Mission Street. The showcases allow customers to learn about dozens of different cannabis strains directly from the farmers who grow them.

The farmers market is the brainchild of Susan Tibbon, who teamed up with the owners of Barbary Coast and Moe Greens to create the “meet the farmers” series. Tibbon owns a cannabis topical brand called Lovingly & Legally with her partner Paul Hasbury. Their business and their farming partners were thriving in California’s medical market, Tibbon told me, but since California legalized recreational cannabis in 2016, they’ve noticed how the ensuing regulations make it almost impossible to support small-scale pot farming.

Tibbon said she’s been organizing the farmers market events to try to connect small farms with new customers. She's responsible for organizing which farms participate, and each month, she brings in about a half-dozen farmers to set up booths with jars filled with their weed, ready to be smelled and enjoyed.

“Everybody kept saying we need to do something for the small farmers, so we decided to do something,” Tibbon told SFGATE. “These are the real pioneers of the industry that get their hands dirty to make the genetics and the future of cannabis possible.”

This market is dedicated entirely to cannabis, which fit's perfectly with Governor "Self Medicate" Newsom's suggestion that everybody get high and pretend things are going well.

Look at these smelly, atheist red-diaper-doper-babies selling each other pot. And we have a gall to point the fingers at Iran.

The corporatization of weed is a real thing. A big money “dispensary” operation just moved in across the street from Costco here in Jax. And this is in DeSantis’ Florida.

ROSEANNA ROSEANNADANNA: What is all this about farmer's market for cannibals? Can't cannibals just catch their own food? Why do they have to ruin all the farmer's markets for everyone else? I hate having to see an icky human head on the table, or a leg hangin' from the top of the tent! They have to...oh, wait...what? "Cannabis" market? Never mind.

Looks like your typical old liberal hag. So sweet she’s passionately dedicated to adding to the vast corps of zoned out losers who live here in CA. And convinced she’s a humanitarian

But think about the practicalities here: the one on Market St might generally be ok, but the one in the Mission District is problematic: you’re going to need to park in an area that can be pretty rough, leaving your car in the hopes it doesn’t get its windows smashed. You’re going to go buy dope, then walk back through said neighborhood, carrying drugs, without getting robbed. Well, we’ll see how that works out

The smell of pot is EVERYWHERE in San Francisco. No wonder the city is going to hell and people are fleeing.

I avoid both Market and Mission streets - both smell strongly of urine.

Personally, I am allergic to it - but my husband loved it and said it was the only thing that alleviated his pain and nausea when he was dying. He switched to using tinctures and oils instead so he wouldn’t smoke up the house.

Yep. And she’s going to no doubt take her cut of the proceeds of the sales, right?

Can’t wait to see what happens when the homeless figure out where this farmers’ market is.
