Exactly. “This just in from the desk of the local CIA office.”

Why does the USA feel obligated to control the affairs of the whole world, even those that have no impact on our national interests? I don’t get it. There must be yellowcake thar in them Bakhmut hills.

I can’t answer for the CIA, but the US has effectively committed itself to maintaining the Pax Americana. That’s been the de facto US national strategy since either 1945 or 1950. Doing that requires being the world’s policeman, at least in some areas or cases.

This has an element of riding the tiger. It’s disconcerting while one is on the creatures back, but it’s probably better than getting off.
