The shared equality of misery for all.
Hugo Chavez won his elections.
He arranged government money for the poor and they outnumbered the rich (and where is that not true?) and voted for him.
The rich running businesses hated that he was winning like this. It prevented their businesses from growing.
But that’s what the people wanted.
Then the US imposed sanctions and attempted to overthrow the government the people elected. The most prominent memory I have of US propaganda claims about Venezuela is that of starvation and empty grocery stores, including supposed photos of this.
My doubt was solidified the day there was an earthquake in Caracas. Youtube filled with local videos of the shaking and damage. It also filled with people streaming in terror out of buildings all over the country.
None of them were emaciated and skeletal. Not a single one. I looked carefully.
Then there were interviews with people on the highways “fleeing” Venezuela because they were destitute and starving.
Most of them were in vehicles. The women had taken time to put on makeup before the interview.
We are being lied to about almost everything. Daily.
Chavez won his first election in 1999. Population then was about 23 million. He died in 2013. The population then was about 29 million. Hard for that to be so if no one has food.
