During an event in New Delhi, where he had been taking part in talks among the G20 group of industrialized nations,...In a session that was part of the "Raisina Dialogue 2023" series, Lavrov was asked by one audience member how the war had affected Russia's energy strategy. "The war which we are trying to stop and which was launched against us," Lavrov said, before laughter rang out among the audience.

The idiot Russians think they can gaslight the entire world. They’re pathetic.
Not very good optics for Russia.
They can laugh, but step back a second and see it from their viewpoint.
There are many in Russia who firmly believe that NATO encroachment caused the war. To you and I the idea that Western Europe would invade Russia is patently absurd, but it is deeply ingrained in the psyche of Russia.
How would we react if the Russians were in Cuba, Quebec, or Mexico? Oh, wait. We did react to the Soviets expanding into Cuba and the world was brought to the brink of nuclear war because of it - we even attempted an “invasion” using our CIA....
Putin made a mistake in my estimation because he had won the negotiation for the time being, but in the eyes of Lavrov Putin reacted to what the Russians view (and have said) as an existential threat to their nation and Moscow.
The Western world-view seems incapable of understanding how we got here and many parrot the opinions of Soros, Nuland, Hillary, Graham, Rice, Powers, and the usual neocon suspects about why this conflict happened and what it is about.
Respectfully - We can all wish that Russia would withdraw from the Ukraine and sympathize with (even cheer for) the Ukrainian people, but when you are on the same side as that list of people it might be time to start asking serious questions about how we got here and what is our role in this moving forward.
“Moment Sergei Lavrov Is Laughed At After Claiming Ukraine Ignited War”
Good, he DESERVED IT. Anyone who has bothered to try to understand what ‘ignited war’ in Ukraine would know that the NEOCONS, led by VICTORIA NULAND, ignited this war - Ukraine had little to do with it and should NOT be blamed.
Most of those laughing at Lavrov, in the same way Kamala Harris does when she's caught lying, will be out of job in the near future.

“How would we react if the Russians were in Cuba, Quebec, or Mexico? Oh, wait. We did react to the Soviets expanding into Cuba and the world was brought to the brink of nuclear war because of it...”
Wrong! We didn’t much care about Soviet troops in Cuba; what we DID care about was the Soviets introducing into Cuba OFFENSIVE nuclear missiles capable of striking the entire “lower 48” of the US, with the exception of a small slice of pie in the extreme Pacific northwest.
“Putin made a mistake in my estimation because he had won the negotiation for the time being, but in the eyes of Lavrov Putin reacted to what the Russians view (and have said) as an existential threat to their nation and Moscow.”
An existential threat from Ukraine? A much smaller and much weaker country than Russia? If Russia saw Ukraine as an existential threat Russia is indeed a Potemkin country no stronger than, say, Ethiopia.
“The Western world-view seems incapable of understanding how we got here and many parrot the opinions of Soros, Nuland, Hillary, Graham, Rice, Powers, and the usual neocon suspects about why this conflict happened and what it is about.”
Well, you’ve just showed whose side you’re on; the “neocon” slander is a tell.
“Respectfully - We can all wish that Russia would withdraw from the Ukraine and sympathize with (even cheer for) the Ukrainian people, but when you are on the same side as that list of people it might be time to start asking serious questions about how we got here and what is our role in this moving forward.”
You conveniently ignore that there is a large group of people — myself included — who cheer for Ukraine in its fight against the existential threat from Russia IN SPITE OF who Ukraine’s president is and IN SPITE OF the current U.S. administration.
Some here are gaslit well enough though.
The only people being laughed at are the Americans and their propaganda propagated “message.” Project Ukraine - from the CIA planned color revolution, to the nazis they put in charge - is coming to an end. Like hopefully the American Empire itself! Perhaps we can return to being a modest republic as we were designed to be, not a global terrorist blowing up pipelines, assassinating people, meddling in other people’s sovereign states.
He was a great defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings. 🥅 🏒
The “threat” is not from the Ukraine although their constant harassment of Russian speaking people in Donbass did not help. The threat is from NATO forces - specifically US forces and Zelensky and NATO are determined to bring in Ukraine.
There is a reason that the USSR did not put staffed military bases in Cuba. We have US forces right now on the ground in Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, and others. That is the encroachment that the West promised we would not do and we would NOT tolerate it in Canada, Mexico, or Cuba. You can be certain of that.
How is “neocon” a slander? These idiots have blown through trillions of dollars since 9/11 and the ticker is still running. How did that work out? Defense contractors, think-tanks, and politicians made out quite well as did the UN, but I don’t think my kids are going to count their benefits. You and I pay for it every single transaction (inflation) because it was all borrowed money. I am a veteran. I know people who did not return and many more who are jacked up for life. For what? Building a democracy in nations that don’t want it because the Ivy-league nitwits said it would be a good idea?
I don’t disagree with your thoughts about supporting the Ukrainian people but not liking Zelensky. I have posted similar thoughts many times.
The sooner this war ends the better but I have a feeling our government will keep us in this thing no matter what. The corruption over there is sickening and if they win we will rebuild it and if they don’t somehow I suspect we will still pay for something if we don’t end up directly involved.
“The ‘threat’ is not from the Ukraine although their constant harassment of Russian speaking people in Donbass did not help. The threat is from NATO forces - specifically US forces…”
Nonsense. There have been several NATO countries on Russia’s borders for years (Norway; Poland; Lithuania; Latvia: Estonia); and soon to be a sixth (Finland), which has an 830-mile border with Russia. Yet, oddly, Russia has never invaded any of them since joining NATO; Russia didn’t even invade them when they became independent and voiced an intent to join NATO. So, this so-called offensive threat from NATO is hogwash and you know it.
“There is a reason that the USSR did not put staffed military bases in Cuba.”
Oh, but it did.
“We have US forces right now on the ground in Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, and others. That is the encroachment that the West promised we would not do…”
That’s a lie. Even Gorbachev – who was present in and participated in the discussions that you guys always reference – said there was no such agreement or understanding.
“… and we would NOT tolerate it in Canada, Mexico, or Cuba. You can be certain of that.”
But, we have; and we do. We didn’t squawk about Soviet troops in Cuba; we squawked about the Soviets introducing into Cuba offensive ballistic missiles capable of striking the entire lower 48 of the US, with the exception of a small slice of pie up at the extreme Pacific Northwest. When the Chinese military establishment took over control of the Panama Canal we didn’t go to war with China. When Chinese troops went to Canada for training we didn’t invade China.
“How is ‘neocon’ a slander?”
Because it is applied with a broad brush. A “neocon” is a Democrat or leftist who advocates for a robust foreign policy. JFK would have been a neocon, as would LBJ and Scoop Jackson and Zell Miller. There are many conservatives who were never Democrats or leftists who advocate for a robust foreign policy. Are they “neocons?” Likewise, I could label as a “neocom(munist)” any and every Republican or conservative who supports a communist or advocates for some of the communist agenda. Such a broad-brush application would also be a slander.
“How did that work out? Defense contractors, think-tanks, and politicians made out quite well as did the UN, but I don’t think my kids are going to count their benefits.”
If, for instance, you have ever bought anything or anything with a component made by GE or Honeywell or Textron; or have ever flown in anything built by Boeing or Lockheed, you contributed to those defense contractors. A smart person would have considered investing in those companies so he or she could share those benefits. And think-tanks and politicians? They are one and the same, and will make out like bandits no matter what the circumstances. Don’t like it? Throw them out of office and run for office yourself. And don’t be surprised and wax indignant if you succumb to the siren song of graft.
“I am a veteran.”
So am I.
“I know people who did not return and many more who are jacked up for life.”
So do I, and one a family member.
“The sooner this war ends the better…”
Of course. But that all depends, doesn’t it? I mean, no sane person would want a war to last more than necessary to achieve one’s purpose. Ukraine is fighting for its survival as a free and independent and sovereign nation; this war is existential to Ukraine (but it ISN’T existential to Russia). I think if you asked Ukrainians how long the war should last in order to secure their freedom and independence and sovereignty you’d probably hear: “As long as it takes.”
