Also, as always happens with a Latin American (or anywhere else) politician, there are rumors that his family is getting really rich on things like the prison construction contracts.

People getting rich on extortion and murder, or people getting rich on jailing extortionists and murderers. I know which I'd prefer to see in my society.

Well, sure. However, the question of whether Bukele's efforts, including the megacarcel, will be successful is still open. We won't know until some time has passed.

The President of Colombia is saying how terrible it is, but he's a Communist ex-guerrilla, so meh to him. Bukele replies that at least those in the new prison will be prevented from doing more harm.

That is what remains to be seen. Putting people in prison in the United States often does not stop them from doing more harm. Some of that harm is to other inmates, but many times, gang leaders are able to continue operating criminal enterprises from their cells.
