....it would not be unusual for a person who had voluntarily undergone commitment for clinical depression to be competent to review and sign legislation.

No one has the fortitude to stop it. It can be stopped, but it will require sacrifices that most are unwilling to entertain.

“Someone the people of Pennsylvania didn’t elect is acting in Fetterman’s capacity.”

That was true even before Fetterman checked into the mental hospital.

Fetterman has been a puppet from day one it’s just more obvious now that’s he hospitalized for depression.

He can co-sponsor legislation, but he can’t vote in committee or on the floor. It’s a dirty not so secret that staff do most of the work of drafting legislation.

We don’t live in a Republic anymore, and the laws are irrelevant. The people in power do whatever they want and there is little or no pushback from the gutless GOP. McConnell might as well change parties. He’s no conservative and seems to not even have a modicum of patriotism to him.
Worthless.

A sad and distressing situation.

I suspect his wife is taking care of business behind the scenes and has been doing so even before the election.

She likely thinks she gets the position if hubby is unable to do the job.

Sponsoring legislation is not the same as voting on it.. Fetterman cannot vote while he’s in the hospital.

Exactly - the Senate Minority Leader should be right on top of this. What would Schumer be saying if an office boy was acting in place of an incapacitated Grassley?

Fetterman will continue to cast votes in the Senate whether he is present in the chamber or not. Hell, he could be dead and still be voting (that's the Dem way, is it not?)

Pelosi changed the House rules to allow members to vote from home during COVID, IIRC.

I don't think the Senate rules changed. To vote, a senator must be present -- not a proxy, not a mail-in. There are historic votes where ailing senators were actually brought into the chamber on their literal deathbeds.

I thought the Senate had to both have a quorum and the member be present to vote? Don't I remember Sen. Byrd being wheeled in a wheelchair to vote?

Or has "Science! COVID!" negated everything these days?

Fetterman checked into the mental hospital.

...Voluntary or In-voluntary....just askn for a FRend.

Do they have 5150 in PA:

A 5150 (pronounced fifty-one-fifty) is a legal action from the CA Welfare and Institutions Code. It allows a qualified officer or clinician to confine someone against their will for 72 hours. During this time, the person will be fully assessed for their mental health status. The idea is to obtain help for the person during the hold, and after they are released.

Certain signs will be noticed when someone is having a mental breakdown. These might include:

Psychotic break, or losing touch with reality.
Violent acts against others.
Threats of suicide.
Gravely disabled.
Effects of excessive substance abuse.
Catatonic state.

Sure. Just run that bill over to the mental hospital and have your senator sign off on it. Lol

Edith Wilson came in and out of a closed off room when Woodrow Wilson suffered a severe stroke. She “made the decisions on which matters o communicate to her husband” and told staff members what to do about bills under consideration in Congress and policy matters.
According to whitehouse.gov “she pre-screened all matters of state, functionally running the Executive branch of government for the remainder of Wilson’s second term.”
