A week after Nikki Haley jumped into the 2024 Republican presidential primary race, she remains behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for second and is getting crushed by former President Donald Trump.
In one of the first surveys to size up the coming GOP fight, Trump has the support of 52% of Republicans. DeSantis landed second in the Rasmussen Reports survey at 24% and Haley at 15%.
But where she scored big is with Democrats, and that has helped her in a potential head-to-head with President Joe Biden. She is seen as a good alternative by enough Democrats that she is leading Biden 45%-41%, according to the survey.
The survey helped to show that Haley has pockets of support in liberal and moderate circles that neither Trump nor DeSantis can tap. For example, 41% of Democrats have a favorable impression of Haley, just a few points below those who don’t.
And in a faceoff with Biden, she receives 18% of the Democratic support to Biden’s 74%, enough apparently to give her the general election edge over the embattled president who many Democrats wish would opt out of the race.
Rasmussen said that Haley is attractive to several influential voting groups. The survey analysis shared with Secrets said, “Fifty-six percent (56%) of whites, 47% of black voters and 58% of other minorities have at least a somewhat favorable impression of Haley. In a 2024 presidential contest against Biden, Haley would win whites by a plurality, 48% to 41%, and also win with other minorities 44% to 37%, while black voters prefer Biden, 50% to 33%.”
To get there, she first has to win the GOP primaries, an uphill effort that likely played a role in her jumping into the election so early. She has generally been well-received so far on the campaign trail.
But she is far behind Trump in a three-way race that includes DeSantis. She served as Trump's U.S. ambassador to the United Nations but was critical of him after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots.
Yeah. Nikki’s best bet is St. Jude.
I think she will be the first to drop out.
Niki is auditioning for VP. Most of the politicians who will probably enter the race have no chance of getting the nomination. If they think otherwise, they’re delusional. It will come down to Trump and DeSantis...period.
Of course Dims would have a good opinion of Haley, it;s good someone does. I sure don’t.
Articles like this are pointless. We know Nikki Haley isn’t going to win. Her fundraising will be puny at best and she will have to drop out after two or three primaries at best. She won’t break into double digits in any of them. She’s in the race to promote a book. The paper needs to focus on more relevant content.
I don’t object to her running, as long as she remembers Reagan’s 11th commandment.
Trump does that already, until someone attacks him first. Then he is a champion counter-puncher.
She had the decency to talk to Trump before tossing her hat into the ring, so I’ll give her credit for that.
She was awesome in the UN. I wish she had stuck to that. That was her Peter Principle highest competency level.
Trump should tell them that instead of letting the dumbass GOP party suggest a VP he will probably pick the second-highest vote getter. Which is what I thought he was planning to do by offering the VP spot to Cruz last time... Cruz was too dumb to take it, which took him down a notch in my assessment of him.
Plus it would discourage them from bad-mouthing him.
Really? President Trump has gone out of his way to criticize Ronny Meatball (I think DeSantis should capitalize on that dig by Trump).
Jeb II.
Democrats are backing her because they know she would get creamed in general.
The GOP would probably loose TX.
Im betting she does as bad as Harris
Trump adheres to Reagan’s 11th commandment? He only attacks if attacked first????
